What Is a Relay Attack, and Is Your Car Vulnerable?
Keyless entry made getting into your car more convenient, but it also created a new theft method: the relay attack. Thieves use a pair of signal-boosting devices to capture your key fob's signal from inside your house and relay it to your car, tricking it into thinking the key is nearby.

Certain Jeep, Dodge and Chrysler models share a known vulnerability in their keyless systems that makes them a common target for this method.
What actually stops it
